Policy and Procedure for Borrowing Kitchen Equipment

From time to time members of St. John request to borrow items from the kitchen for a family reunion, bridal or baby shower, graduation, etc. We want to continue the opportunity for St. John members to borrow items such as: roasters, coffee pots, decorative items, etc.

If you would like to borrow an item, please contact a member of the Kitchen Committee 48 hours prior to the time you wish to pick up the item(s). This allows time to check the church calendar and other reservations for the item(s).

The policy and procedure for borrowing kitchen equipment is below for your convenience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Kitchen Committee members listed in the policy and procedure document.

Thank you,
Kitchen Committee

St. John Lutheran Church
Policy and Procedure for Borrowing Kitchen Equipment

Statement of Purpose
This policy and accompanying procedure provide guidelines to church members and staff for removal of church-owned kitchen equipment and furnishings from church premises.

First and foremost, the equipment is owned by the church specifically to facilitate activities of the church, church organizations, and church groups. However, we want to continue the opportunity for St. John members to borrow items from the kitchen. Because St. John operates on a budget, all members and staff must protect the church’s assets. We must handle them carefully, minimize their wear and tear, and extend their life as far as possible.

Policy
Only a member of St. John may borrow kitchen items. A request for borrowing any item must be made through a Kitchen Committee member 48 hours prior to picking up item(s). This is to allow checking of the church calendar for upcoming events and/or other reservations. Maximum period of checkout is 7 days from date the item(s) are picked up from the church.

Kitchen items that may be borrowed include kitchen equipment: appliances, roasters, coffee urns and pots, other pots, pans, containers, tableware, decorative items, etc. Table linens are to be used at the church only. There is a $2.50 fee per table cloth used to pay for the cleaning and pressing of the table cloths.

The borrowing member is liable for any damage, loss, and/or theft of the item(s) during the borrowing period, up to and including the replacement costs of the item(s). On rare occasions, a deposit may be required.

The borrowing member agrees to hold harmless St. John and its other employees, members, and associated volunteers in the event injury or death results from its use or misuse.
